Fishery inspectors discovered two rubber boats and 16 pieces of fishing equipment during a patrol in the water protection zone of Lake Kalygir. The confiscated gear includes five seine nets and 11 standard fishing nets. None of the equipment carried ownership markings, representing a severe violation of the fishing regulations for the Far Eastern Fishery Basin. Authorities have subsequently launched an administrative investigation into the incident.
Lake Kalygir is situated on the eastern coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula, approximately 130 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and south of the Zhupanovsky Estuary. The water body consists of two main sections – Bolshoy Kalygir and Maly Kalygir – and is separated from the adjacent bay by a sand and pebble spit that opens in the north. The lake basin serves as a crucial spawning ground for the Pacific toothed smelt population.
