Wolf Spotted Consuming Prey Near Kamchatka’s Gorely Volcano

Tourists in Kamchatka witnessed a rare wildlife event – a wolf consuming its prey on the move. The sighting occurred on a popular hiking route at the base of the Gorely volcano. The animal appeared to be a large predator that was still recovering from the harsh winter months.

The guide who recorded the encounter initially misidentified the prey as a tarbagan, a species of Mongolian marmot not found in the Kamchatka region. The victim was likely a black-capped marmot, which is native to the local ecosystem.

The wolf remained focused on its prey and ignored the tourists standing several dozen meters away, continuing its path to forage. This incident follows a previous sighting in March, when staff at the Kronotsky Nature Reserve documented a pack of wolves patrolling the shoreline of Olga Bay.
