During the first week of September, security personnel at Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky International Airport intercepted six attempts to transport salmon caviar exceeding the permitted limit.
Passengers traveling to Moscow, Vladivostok, Irkutsk, and Novosibirsk attempted to carry a combined total of 21 kilograms of excess caviar in their luggage. The travelers were required to hand over the surplus product to accompanying individuals before departure.
An ongoing regulatory initiative to monitor the air transport of unmarked caviar has been active in the Kamchatka region since November 1, 2022. Under current regulations, individuals are permitted to carry a maximum of 10 kilograms of such products per person in either checked baggage or hand luggage.
Since the implementation of this initiative, authorities have identified 321 violations, with the total weight of illegally transported caviar reaching three tons. Over the same period, approximately 698 tons of air-transported caviar have undergone inspection. These regulatory measures have successfully reduced the outflow of unmarked products – previously transported under the guise of personal consumption – by a factor of three.
Equivalent restrictions are currently enforced in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug and Khabarovsk Krai. The regulatory initiative across these regions is scheduled to continue until August 1, 2027.
