An amateur fisherman caught an almost meter-long starfish on the Ozernovskaya Spit in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The outlandish invertebrate has become the star of many photo shoots, the photojournalist of the KAMCHATKA-INFORM agency reports.

Usually, on the shore of the Avacha Bay, you can find starfish washed up on land, the size of which reaches a maximum of 20-25 cm in diameter. This echinoderm was more than three times as large. However, in Kamchatka, the correspondent of the KAMCHATKA-INFORM agency was informed that there was nothing unusual about such a find. “An ordinary five-pointed star of the sea. There is nothing surprising in its size,” the representative of the institute hastened to disappoint the journalist. Starfish are sedentary animals of the class of invertebrates of the echinoderm type, having from five to 50 rays. There are more than 1,600 known species of starfish in the world. They feed mainly on dead sea creatures, mollusks, and silt. Avacha Bay, a reservoir of the highest category, is home to several species of starfish, crabs, hedgehogs, mussels, colonial hydroids, sponges, anemones, anemones, and 32 species of fish.
