Kamchatka otters turned out to be more cunning than the reserve inspector
The inspector of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve set up a camera trap on the otter trail, but the animals “ignored it,” Kamchatka.Today reports with reference to the environmental institution.
In January, Liana Varavskaya noticed where the paths of river otters pass in the floodplain of the Olga River, which flows into the bay of the same name in the Kronotsky Bay.
Assuming that these paths lead to animal burrows, which they arrange under the banks of rivers, she decided to observe the life of representatives of the marten family.
Liana set up a camera trap. But the otters, like ghosts, silently crawled on their bellies past the automatic motion-controlled DVR.
“The real reserved Stirlitz and James Bonds. I realized that I couldn’t catch her in the photo. There’s a fresh footprint nearby, her droppings are on the trap itself, and the memory card is empty!” complained Liana.
