Forestry workers in the Kamchatka region are actively removing competing vegetation and shrubs that hinder the development of young trees. Regular monitoring, timely maintenance, and fire protection measures are integral to this initiative. These planned clearing activities are a fundamental component of the broader regional reforestation strategy, directly aimed at regulating the density of forest plantations.
Comprehensive thinning operations in young forests are scheduled for 2026, targeting a total area of 165 hectares across the Klyuchevskoye, Bystrinskoye, and Milkovskoye forestry districts. Currently, cleaning cuts have already been completed on 66 hectares – comprising 55 hectares in the Atlasovskoye district and 11 hectares in the Bystrinskoye district.
The maintenance process relies on the use of chainsaws and brushcutters to selectively clear unwanted underbrush. These targeted operations serve to improve the species composition of the timber stands while preserving and enhancing the protective, water conservation, and overall ecological properties of the woodland environments.
