By the end of 2024, Kamchatka fishermen have extracted more than 1.5 million tons of aquatic biological resources, the press service of the regional government reports. The share of enterprises in the region is still more than 30% of the total Russian catch. At the same time, the total catch in the Kamchatka Territory was about 82% of the 2023 figures.
“Pollock occupies the first place in the catch structure of the Kamchatka Territory, in 2024 the production volume of this facility amounted to 0.67 million tons. In second place, unlike in the previous 2023, not Pacific salmon, but iwashi sardine with a score of 0.25 million tons. The catch of herring in 2024 amounted to 0.19 million tons, Pacific salmon – 0.13 million tons,” said Pavel Buryak, a researcher at the fisheries department of the Ministry of Fisheries of the Kamchatka Territory.
Despite the reduction in the final catch of Kamchatka fishermen compared to 2023, the government notes that it is 7.5% higher than the fishing result of 2022.
For 2025, enterprises of the Kamchatka Territory have been allocated quotas for the production of more than 1.2 million tons for industrial and coastal fishing, including 83.4 thousand tons received in connection with the implementation of investment projects for the construction of a fleet and coastal processing facilities. In addition to the quota-based aquatic biological resources, Pacific salmon are to be harvested, the forecast for which has not yet been formed.
RBC recalls that analysts called the results of the salmon harvest in 2024 the worst since 2005. According to VNIRO data for December, 235.4 thousand tons of red fish were harvested, the largest volume was traditionally provided by fishermen of Kamchatka – 130.8 thousand tons. It was emphasized that low catches coincided with an increase in the costs of salmon enterprises. Thus, the cost of servicing bank loans increased by more than 2 times compared to the previous year.
